Social Networking Strategy

In regards of the New York Times article, Saturday, May 10, 2010, about the 9-year-old boy named Harry that sent his drawing of an airplane to the Boeing Corporation and asked them to manufacture his plane design but the company replied with a cold and business like letter, some people think that this issue was in fact disseminated in the social networking world and later the whole internet and even TV as a natural and unintentional social networking effect by regular people using the internet, but I completely disagree.
Regular people use social networking websites to express themselves and connect with other people, but in the case of Harry's father (the CEO of an Advertising Agency), social media is used as a live advertising tool. I think the whole ordeal was brought up and blown out of proportion with the real intension to promote Harry's father's ad agency from the start and also to show the world (specially Boeing Corporation) how they can help promote other business using innovative promotional strategies and PR without using the classic tools and maybe even at a lower cost.
Social Media allow advertising agencies to create and play a whole new game in the internet where companies can reach millions of people at a lower cost than what other media with the same reach potential would cost. What do you think?
